The Zionsville Courtyard
Project Story
A small courtyard between two brick wings of a Zionsville home was the obvious place for water. We treated it as a single architectural element — bluestone, ivy, a square of still water — designed to be read from the kitchen as much as used.
Design Challenge
Treat a small courtyard with the same restraint a much larger property would demand.
Lifestyle Outcome
A pair of empty-nester owners who use the courtyard as a daily ritual — coffee at six, plunge at seven, all year long.
Unique Feature
A small square of dark water that reads, from the kitchen window, as a single architectural element rather than a pool.
